So you Want a Book?

Good Morning!

I'm so excited and encouraged by the number of people who have responded to my Facebook post about my memoir Art We There Yet and asked how they could purchase a copy.

Here we go:

1. If you live nearby, just call ahead (so I'm not in my pajamas!) and let me know you are coming and I will sell you a signed book at my home. If you are not able to get out due to illness or disability and live nearby, I'll be happy to bring the book to you.

2. If you don't live nearby (Hello, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Florida and Connecticut!), please send me an email at lawsonch19@gmail.com with your mailing address. I will sign a book, get it weighed so that I can charge you the exact shipping cost, and pack it up to send to you.

3. For payment I accept Venmo, PayPal, checks and, of course, cash. Unfortunately, my credit union does not participate on Zelle. I don't want to put my Venmo and PayPal information online, so I will email it to you when I acknowledge receipt of your order. The cost is $19.95.

4. After May 6th, you can purchase a copy through Amazon or Barnes & Noble. If you enjoy the book, I'd really appreciate your positive review.

5. I am working to get copies in some local indie bookstores in both Maine and Connecticut. I've already conacted Sherman's. If there is a bookstore near you that you like, please send me their name and location and I will contact them about doing a book signing and carrying copies of Are We There Yet? Thanks so much!

Welcome to "Are We There Yet": Outtakes & Updates

I started writing my memoir on the night of my 75th birthday, October 25, 2023, the night of Maine's first mass shooting in nearby Lewiston. It was a stormy night in more ways than one and I couldn't sleep. So I got up and  started writing. Finding writing both cathartic and calming, I didn't stop for almost three years!

Being finished and holding my first published book feels a little bit like giving birth - you labor through the writing, editing, proofreading, cover design and graphics - until the book feels like a part of you. It's not easy to send this book out into the world and yet it is so exciting.

My sisters and I experienced iconic childhood adventures in Connecticut. During the long rides up old Route 1 to Maine for summer vacations, we joined in a cacaphony of  ̈Are We There Yets ̈ from the back seat of Dad's '59 Impala. Teen-age summers at Wells Beach were so magical that once we finally got there, we never wanted to leave.  Some of our madcap adventures will make you laugh and others may make you cry, but they are stories to which women of our generation will likely relate.

It's scary to put our lives out there for you to read about but it's also exciting. Laugh or cry, I hope you'll enjoy Are We There Yet?. It will be available  on Amazon and Barnes & Noble on the official launch date of  May 6th. You may purchase the book for  $19.95  or download to e-readers like Kindle for $9.95. You can also order hard copies from me - or pick them up if you're nearby.

Through this blog, I can't wait to share some of the many things I've learned about the process of publishing a book. I also want to share with you the many stories I had to delete from the book, 30,000 words worth of them (!) due to its ever-growing length. Some of them are pretty funny! I'll use this blog to update you on where I will be for book signings over the next few months as well. I hope to do some in both Connecticut and Maine.

Hope you'll follow along with me on this blog. Happy reading!

Be sure to fill in the contact form at the top right so we can keep in touch. I'll add you to my e-mail list for upcoming book events. And I'd love to read your comments!
